CLARK/SCOTT COUNTY, Ind. - SCHEDULE UPDATE: Drivers should be aware of shifting traffic patterns on I-65 as part of the Safer Drive 65 project in Clark and Scott counties. Beginning on or after August 24, 2026, northbound traffic will shift to the southbound side between mile markers 16 and 22 as crews reconstruct pavement. This phase shift was originally anticipated to begin on or after August 1.

Traffic will be shifted toward the outside lanes in each direction to allow for the Pigeon Roost Bridge to be widened in the median between mile markers 24 and 25. Drivers should also be aware of a possible overnight, temporary closure of the northbound exit ramp at Exit 19.

Two lanes of traffic will be open in both directions throughout construction.

This traffic pattern is anticipated to last until early 2027, weather permitting.

All work is weather dependent, and schedules are subject to change.

This traffic shift marks the beginning of Phase 2 of the project, which includes road reconstruction and widening. Bridge reconstruction, drainage improvements, and ramp pavement rehabilitation at S.R. 160 is also included in this phase. Phase 1 includes road reconstruction and drainage improvements within the limits of road reconstruction. The bridges over Blue Lick Creek, Caney Fork, and Brownstown Road were also widened.

The Safer Drive 65 project will improve approximately 13 miles of I-65 between Blue Lick Road in Clark County and S.R. 56 in Scott County. The project includes adding travel lanes, reconstructing pavement, and upgrading key infrastructure along the corridor.
